What is BRCF’s Scholar Alumni Alliance? The Scholar Alumni Alliance is an elite group of past recipients of BRCF-administered scholarships, many of whom seek ways to philanthropically pay forward their gratitude for the scholarships they received. After receiving a scholarship, a student automatically is a part of the alliance, and their involvement is entirely up to them. The foundation is committed to learning about the accomplishment and life events of the alumni scholars after graduation. Several alumni scholars actively participate within BRCF while others simply enjoy receiving information about the great work BRCF continues to do in Shelby County.

HISTORY

During the summer of 2018, Stacy Baute and Lauren Ruble (pictured l-r), Shelby County’s 2008 Lilly Scholars, reached out to BRCF searching for opportunities to give back to their community. What perfect timing! Lauren and Stacy agreed to help us with this effort and organized the first meet and greet for this group of alumni which was held in October 2018. Since that time, they have been instrumental with the efforts of this group as well as these founding committee members of the Alliance; Billy Blocher, Morgan Brockman, Brooke Haney, and Danni Schweitzer. These members have helped with various BRCF activities; for example, scholarship workshops, writing grants for projects and programs in Shelby County, and a mentoring program - Campus Connections. To date over 200 former scholarship recipients are actively engaged with BRCF through the Alliance. We are grateful to all our Alumni who have completed surveys, shared information for scholar spotlight segments, volunteered their time to various projects, and connected with students through Campus Connections.

Scholar alumni alliance scholarship

The Scholar Alumni Alliance Scholarship was established by Blue River Community Foundation through their Together We Give Match Campaign in 2024. The scholarship and criteria were developed through the guidance of seven members of the Scholar Alumni Alliance who were driven by a collective desire to give back and invest in the next generation of scholars. The scholarship aims to promote experience through work, volunteerism, or academic pursuits in one’s area of study/career path, and especially values philanthropic efforts in Shelby County. Alumni scholars and their families have generously donated to this fund to show their gratitude for past scholarships and invest in the future of Shelby County.
